VelaShape is a non-surgical option | | The Food and Drug Administration has approved VelaShape and its initial, slightly less powerful version, VelaSmooth, for the temporary reduction of cellulite. These non-surgical treatments use a combination of bi-polar radiofrequency energy, infrared light energy, and tissue manipulation to smooth and tighten skin, thus reducing cellulite’s characteristic dimpling. They also reduce the circumference of treated areas. | | VelaShape and VelaSmooth are used on any area of the body affected by cellulite, including the thighs, buttocks and hips. Syneron Medical Ltd, the company that developed VelaShape and VelaSmooth, contends that the heat from the treatment releases stored energy in fat cells, causing cellulite "pockets" to shrink in size. The VelaShape/VelaSmooth cellulite treatmentThe treatments, which may last from 30-60 minutes depending on the area of the body being treated, are often likened to an athletic-strength massage. You’ll feel some tugging on the skin as a pulsed vacuum device positions your skin for the deliverance of the heat and light energies. Once the treatment is over, your skin will retain a sensation of heat—and perhaps some redness and swelling—for several hours. You can return immediately, however, to your normal activities. For best results, your physician will probably suggest 4 to 6 sessions over a similar number of weeks. For long-term results, ongoing maintenance treatments are required. |
