    • Mesotherapy claims to reduce cellulite by dissolving excess fat deposits with microinjections of formulations that contain drugs, plant extracts, homeopathic medications, vitamins and other ingredients.

    FDA warnings for Mesotherapy

    These claims are unproven, however, for mesotherapy has not been tested in rigorous peer-reviewed clinical studies as far as I'm aware. Furthermore, the formulations used in mesotherapy have not been standardized; thus, there is no way of knowing if the ingredients in a particular injection is safe. These and other concerns have led the Food and Drug Administration and several physician groups to warn people to be extremely cautious about mesotherapy and similar injection lipolysis treatments.

    The mesotherapy treatment

    An anesthetic cream may be applied to your skin half an hour before the treatment begins to numb the treatment area. Patients say the injections, which can be numerous, feel like insect bites. After treatment, you will notice some bruising and redness, which should dissipate within a few days. But serious side effects can develop from Mesotherapy—most notably necrosis, or death of tissue, and scarring that causes permanent lumps to form under the skin.
