LipoShifting

Moving fat to smooth skin

  • Moving fat to smooth skin
  • The Liposhifting treatment

  • Liposhifting is a single-incision surgical procedure used to correct puckered skin and other surface irregularities that sometimes occur after a standard cosmetic surgery procedure, such as a thigh lift, a buttock lift or liposuction.

    The Liposhifting treatment

Liposhifting is usually done as a tumescent procedure—one in which a local anesthetic and a drug that prevents bleeding during surgery (epinephrine) are pumped beneath the skin. This technique is generally considered the safest form of plastic surgery for moving around significant amounts of fat.

After the anesthesia has been given, the surgeon makes an incision, and then inserts a surgical tool that resembles a tiny narrow cheese grater (called the micro graft fat cutter) beneath the skin. With this tool, the surgeon shaves fat from the treatment area, creating a smoother contour to the skin’s surface. If the skin indentations are caused by too little fat, the surgeon uses the tool to shift fat from other areas to fill the recesses—all without removing any fat from the body. After the surgery, the treated area is taped for several days to keep any transferred fat immobile.

    LipoShifting side effects

Like any surgical procedure, Liposhifting carries the risk of several serious side effects, including bleeding, scarring and infection. And if your surgeon is not skilled in using the technique, the procedure may cause permanent indentations and dimpling—the exact conditions that were meant to be corrected. Choose your surgeon carefully.
