Lipodissolve

  • The LipoDissolve treatment
  • Speak to your doctor
  • This non-FDA approved procedure involves multiple injections of a chemical compound called phosphatidylchoine (a naturally occurring protein found in soy lecithin) into localized deposits of body fat. In theory, the treatment dissolves the fat, which is then removed from the body through urination.

Although promoted mostly as a fat-reduction treatment, LipoDissolve is also sometimes promoted as a cellulite treatment.

    FDA issues warnings

LipoDissolve—and other injection lipolysis procedures, such as Mesotherapy—are highly controversial. They have not undergone controlled clinical trials in any juried journals. The FDA and several medical organizations have issued cautionary warnings about using these treatments. Still, some doctors offer them off-label. Be sure to ask your physician why he or she is recommending this treatment over another one, what ingredients will be used in the treatment compound, and what the possible risk and complications are.

    The LipoDissolve treatment

The LipoDissolve procedure takes up to an hour, depending on the size of the treated area. No anesthesia is needed. The injections are often compared to minor insect bites. Afterwards, you’ll probably experience some bruising and swelling, but you can go back to your daily activities immediately

    Speak to your doctor

Discuss with your physician how many treatments you’ll need. Lipodissolve sessions are usually spaced at least a month apart. Once you’ve achieved the results you want, maintenance sessions may be needed every few months. Serious side effects can develop, including the formation of scar tissue that can cause permanent lumps to develop under the skin.
